BIOGRAPHY

IMG_9753.JPG

Scarlett Shi is a composer and artist-researcher working across sound, computation, and spatial media. Her work explores how sonic systems shape perception, agency, and our relationships to spaces, events, and one another. She develops interactive installations, WebXR environments, spatial-audio works, and perception studies that move between artistic practice and research.

She is an MFA candidate in Sound Design at the University of California San Diego, where she works with Bobby McElver and Shahrokh Yadegari. She holds a BFA in Directing from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, with a concentration in Performing Arts Sound Design. Her current projects include the multi-participant sonic narrative Meridian Tower, the WebXR spatial-audio work A Thousand Clocks, and an empirical study of perceived intimacy in Wave Field Synthesis.
